Criminal Justice
IN FOCUS
Criminal law is responsible for identifying, discouraging, and, where necessary, punishing activity that causes harm to others or poses another threat to the foundation of civil society. A criminal justice system must carry out these functions in a way that is substantively and procedurally fair while guaranteeing accountability from public authorities who misuse their power in order to be considered legitimate. YAFO focuses on self-defeating policing, coercive plea bargaining, illegal overcriminalization, and challenges our approach to holding law enforcement accountable.
