Publications
- - - This study investigates the unexpected repercussions of Ghana’s Free Senior High School (FSHS) program on household poverty, with a particular emphasis on household savings. Structured interviews were used to obtain primary data from a purposive sample of 130 parents and 8 schools, including both private and public institutions. This paper will be presented at the Free SHS Policy Dialogue in Accra – Ghana.

      The YAFO Institute is hosting a critical policy reform dialogue on Ghana’s Free Senior High School (SHS) initiative, focusing on the theme: Reforming Free SHS: Addressing Unintended Consequences and Household Poverty in Ghana. This event seeks to foster open discussions on the impact of the Free SHS policy, particularly with the unintended challenges it may have introduced on household poverty. The dialogue would feature a research presentation on Free SHS. The event is strictly by invitation.

Fellow

Bright Ahun Adzowe is an aspiring researcher with Bsc. Mathematics with Economics at the University of Cape Coast. He is a solid educationist having graduated with a Diploma in Basic Education from Dambai College of Education in Ghana.

He has contributed to impacting students at the Tapa Alavanyo DA Basic School in the Biakoye District of the Oti Region. He helped in the implementation of projects at Oti Regional Directorate of Agriculture. He has demonstrable leadership abilities as a member of the Finance Committee and Welfare Committee for the regional National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS).

Currently, he is a research intern at the Centre for Public Health, Education and Poverty Reduction as well as Centre for Economic Freedom Policy & Development at YAFO Institute.
