This study investigates the unexpected repercussions of Ghana’s Free Senior High School (FSHS) program on household poverty, with a particular emphasis on household savings. Structured interviews were used to obtain primary data from a purposive sample of 130 parents and 8 schools, including both private and public institutions. This paper will be presented at the Free SHS Policy Dialogue in Accra – Ghana.
The YAFO Institute is hosting a critical policy reform dialogue on Ghana’s Free Senior High School (SHS) initiative, focusing on the theme: Reforming Free SHS: Addressing Unintended Consequences and Household Poverty in Ghana. This event seeks to foster open discussions on the impact of the Free SHS policy, particularly with the unintended challenges it may have introduced on household poverty. The dialogue would feature a research presentation on Free SHS. The event is strictly by invitation.
