Sustainable fundraising remains one of the greatest challenges facing many non-profit organizations and youth-led initiatives in Ghana. While innovative ideas and impactful programmes continue to emerge, limited financial resources often hinder their ability to scale and create lasting change. Building the capacity of young leaders to mobilize resources ethically and effectively has therefore become essential to ensuring the sustainability of initiatives that promote leadership, public policy, entrepreneurship, and national development.
Recognizing this need, YAFO Institute officially launched the Liberty Sphere 2026 Fundraising Campaign with a Fundraising Kick-Off Event held under the theme, “Fundraising Pathways: Unlocking Opportunities for Resource Mobilization and Sustainable Social Impact.” The event served as both the official launch of the fundraising campaign and a practical training session designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to engage donors, build lasting partnerships, and mobilize resources for meaningful impact.
The training was facilitated by Mr. Nathaniel Dwamena, President of YAFO Institute, who guided participants through the fundamentals of fundraising and the principles that underpin successful resource mobilization. Participants explored fundraising as a strategic process of creating value, building relationships, and connecting individuals and organizations with causes that create measurable social impact.
A key highlight of the session was the introduction to Value Proposition in Fundraising while sharing insight on the vision and value proposition behind the Liberty Sphere Project and Training Programme. Participants learned that Liberty Sphere seeks to develop a flourishing environment for professionals, entrepreneurs, journalists, students, and emerging leaders by promoting innovation, free enterprise, sound public policy, and good governance. The initiative aims to reduce barriers to opportunity while equipping young people with the knowledge and leadership skills needed to contribute to Ghana’s long-term prosperity.
The training further introduced participants to the core stages of the fundraising journey, beginning with identifying prospective donors, understanding their interests through effective research, and confidently presenting a compelling value proposition, closing and cultivating donor relationship. The session emphasized that successful fundraising depends on communicating impact, building trust, and developing meaningful relationships rather than simply requesting financial support.
Participants also explored the importance of donor stewardship as an essential component of sustainable fundraising. Discussions focused on maintaining regular communication with donors, expressing appreciation, sharing impact stories, and creating opportunities for donors to witness the outcomes of their contributions. These practices strengthen trust and encourage long-term partnerships that extend beyond a single donation.
In addition, participants were introduced to practical fundraising tools and strategies, including professional networking through LinkedIn, effective use of social media, personal branding, and ethical communication. The session highlighted the importance of maintaining a credible public profile and adopting transparent payment systems to enhance donor confidence and organizational accountability.
As part of the campaign objectives, the Liberty Sphere 2026 Fundraising Campaign seeks to raise at least GHS 1,000 while equipping 30 participants with practical fundraising knowledge and hands-on experience. Participants were also taken through the campaign’s payment system, assigned unique fundraising identification codes, and informed about the recognition of outstanding fundraisers during the Liberty Sphere Dinner Night and Awards Ceremony.
The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, providing participants with the opportunity to seek clarification on fundraising strategies, donor engagement, and campaign implementation. The discussions reflected a shared commitment to strengthening fundraising capacity and expanding opportunities for young leaders to contribute to national development.
Through the Liberty Sphere 2026 Fundraising Campaign, YAFO Institute continues to invest in developing future policy leaders, entrepreneurs, journalists, and changemakers who will champion free enterprise, good governance, and sustainable development. By equipping participants with practical fundraising skills and fostering a culture of strategic resource mobilization, the Institute is laying the foundation for stronger organizations and greater social impact across Ghana.
