The Wealth of Nations at 250: Freedom, Enterprise and the Future of Prosperity
On 24 September 2026, the YAFO Institute will commemorate the 250th anniversary of Adam Smith’s landmark work, The Wealth of Nations, at Liberty Sphere 2026 in Ghana.
Published in 1776, The Wealth of Nations transformed how the world understands markets, enterprise, trade, innovation and human prosperity. Two and a half centuries later, its ideas remain highly relevant to the pursuit of economic freedom and prosperity.
This special commemoration will bring together students, young professionals, entrepreneurs, scholars and freedom advocates to explore Adam Smith’s enduring ideas and their relevance to Africa’s future. Through conversations, learning and engagement, participants will examine how freedom, enterprise and sound institutions can unlock innovation, opportunity and prosperity. The YAFO Institute will use the opportunity to call for donation for its Liberty Anansesem project which plans to translate Eamonn Butler’s book titled “Adam’s Smith The Wealth of Nations – The Graphic Novel” into Asante Twi and distribute to individuals, schools and community libraries in Ghana.
